About Joey Trần
Before becoming a clinical social worker, Joey participated in community organizing for many years, volunteering his time to expand LGBTQ+ acceptance and visibility in his hometown. One of Joey’s core values is empowering marginalized individuals and communities. With a desire to focus on providing mental health care, Joey obtained his Masters of Social Work degree from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City. Soon after graduation, he obtained his LMSW license to practice as a clinician in New York. Joey has experience working with LGBTQ+ people across many age groups and racial identities, from youth to older adults. In addition, Joey has also worked with the general population of adults living with HIV/AIDS. Joey brings his lived experiences as a gay Vietnamese American man to enrich his work as a psychotherapist, helping LGBTQ+ Asian Americans and children of immigrant parents.

What will it be like to work together?
Joey’s approach to therapy is person-centered, trauma-informed, and integrative of attachment and relational dynamics. The therapeutic work will involve exploration of one’s history as well as in-the-moment feelings and reactions. Through exploration of latent feelings and unacknowledged pain, change and healing can emerge. Joey believes the capacity to heal, grow, and transform is inherent in everyone. Joey is sex positive, kink and psychedelic friendly. He encourages clients to bring all of themselves to the work and explore the nuances that make us individuals. He strives for continuous improvements of his clinical skills, and he dedicates himself to on-going education to better help his clients. He engages in trainings in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, peer supervision, and one-on-one supervision.
